With an opportunity to take pictures at the opening I couldn’t wait to pass that phone to my youngest and pose next to my piece in the Curroddities show for 2025.

Making this wonderful piece has been a journey of over 10 years.
“Artists’ souls tend to be hoarders. This skull has been with me for those 10 years. We tend to use them to study anatomy in still life scenes we set up.”

During a garage sale, one afternoon, I decided to start building it up a bit.

I got the opportunity to work with succulents as a gardening element and I was planning to hang this out on my wall outside my home where the light reflected beautifully.

Tie up some moss and air plants…

Splash in some color from flowers leftover from my wedding.

Pieces die off and don’t get replaced…

Time presses on…..

And gives and takes….
An open call for Currioddities: Vanitas was posted…
And it was time to cut the cords for “Ties that Bind Me”, phase 5 of the skull.
Now… to dive into the paint and record a bit of the process….

Each flower represents different parts of the LGBTQ+ and spectrum communities, the Black and Gold represent the ADHD/Autism spectrums, and the beautiful black lace honors the mothers who’ve lost their babies.

Te amo.
